His video work Lunda Bazaar is a study of the eponymous second-hand clothing market in Lahore, Pakistan, that gave the artist the opportunity to study the transformation that occurs when an item of clothing moves from one person to another, and from one culture to another. Shot from afar to ensure the subjects were unaware of being filmed, Lunda Bazaar depicts a succession of individuals trying on jumpers and jackets. The ambient sound of the market is slowed down to form a soundscape, increasing the sense of time and space distilled. The clothing sold at Lunda Bazaar (the name “Lunda” is derived from “London”) has typically made its way from the United Kingdom as well as countries in Asia such as Korea, Japan, India and China. Originally made for people in different climates and cultures, the garments are transformed through the act of appropriation, implying both memory and transformation.
