Chantal Akerman
Jack and Julie are young and in love. They live in a small apartment. He works nights as a taxi driver and that's OK, because it allows them to be together the whole day. They divide their time between bed, shower and kitchen. They hardly sleep, because that's a waste of time and they don't want to miss a single moment. They love each other; that's enough. At a certain point, Jack introduces Julie to Joseph, the boy who drives a taxi by day. Julie loves Jack so much that she is not at all on her guard, not for Joseph and not for herself. They fall in love... Akerman's Nuit et jour is a lively tribute to the ephemeral moment in adolescence when the only thing that seems to count is being-in-love. At the same time, Akerman's film pays homage to Francois Truffaut's classic *Jules et Jim*, but with her it is of course a feminist parable for the 1990s. This film can be seen on April 13th at 20:00 in Cinema Zuid.
