Karel Maes

Karel Maes meets Flouquet and Servranckx at the Brussels art academy, and evolves as they do towards a non-figurative pictorial style. He takes part in exhibitions and congresses of modern artists in Belgium and abroad, publishes geometric-abstract graphic work in avant-garde reviews. His work shows kinship to that of his friend Jozef Peeters, with compositions constructed from geometric planes in subdued colors.
Karel Maes leaves the artistic milieu in 1929, then devoting himself full-time to furniture making and interior design.
