Photo on canvas, bucket and pearls

'''Some of the works could only have been made here [in Cuba],' he says. His starting point were five images of tree trunks that had caugt fire -which can be interpreted as a metaphor for Cuba. 'It is a psychological portrait of Cuba,' he explains. Brey has supplemented the photo's with objects. By doing this he creates a continuation of the stems and roots of the tree in the picture in chains, pearls and buttons. For a different work, he uses a string of pearls that form a loop. Or rusted beams resting on pillows. It makes for a successful combination between two and three dimensional elements."
