Jacqueline Mesmaeker’s conceptual work sets a form of visual thinking in motion. For 21 mars 1975 17h23, she asks various people to take a photo of their current location on 21 March at exactly 17:23. By bringing together 36 simultaneous snapshots in a series, Mesmaeker brings about a reversal in the relationship between time and space inherent to photography. Whereas a photographer is normally bound to one place and can shoot a series of images that develop over time, in this way she succeeds in showing a series of places at one single point in time.
