Laure Prouvost ongoing series of works she calls reliques describe moments or incidents that are typically small fragments of a much wider story. Forming an interconnected constellation of events, it is often ambiguous as to whether the stories are factual, fictional or somewhere in between. Each relique has a hand-painted label next to the exhibited artefact describing its meaning or significance. This particular relique, a piece of bread, we understand was the object of an exchange in an encounter following the digging of a tunnel that emerges in Antwerp’s St. Jansplein district.
