ANDREW WEBB – "I WILL SEE YOU TOMORROW"

Illumination II, 2008
Installation , 61 x 61 cm
Gesso, Gold Leaf on Board, Flies, Framed under glass

Like a religious icon, the shape of a hand floats in heavenly gold, covered, at a slight angle, by the outline of the hand etched into the glass – squashed between the two hands are two flies. The piece recalls the saying; “Two flies in one clap” [Two birds with one stone].

The title refers to an illuminated page, the collection of poems by Rimbaud Illuminations, and in particular the ‘Voyelles’ sonnet where Rimbaud speaks of ‘des mouches éclatantes.’
