The Not Plinth is not a plinth; its ‘stepped’ top denies its function. It is not a sculpture, although it evokes a sculpture. The work’s dimensions relate to the golden ratio, a measurement used in painting. The piece consists of two steps. ‘Step’ translates into Dutch as ‘pas’, into French as ‘pas’ and ‘pas’ into English as ‘not’.
