Charlotte Posenenske – Square Tubes Series DW

German artist Charlotte Posenenske (°1930 - †1985) worked in a tradition of constructivist and concrete art, and was looking for an innovative form of art production and distribution.
Her most famous work – which put in a striking appearance during Documenta XII, among others – consists of a limited number of standardised forms of galvanised steel or corrugated cardboard that are combined in diverse ways.
Posenenske left the art world in 1968 out of dissatisfaction with art’s inability to effect social change. The work from 1967 demonstrates her struggle with these restrictions. Dr. Burkhard Brunn, who manages the artist’s estate, presented the largest sculpture composed of these elements in the mail hall of the M HKA.
The exhibition was accomplished in collaboration with Dr. Burkhard Brunn (Estate Charlotte Posenenske), Galerie Medhi Chouakri and G262 Sofie Van de Velde.
