The idea that art must be encountered or experienced is a common thread running through Franz West’s work. His sculptures invite the spectator to look at them and to use them as functional objects. His work makes us think about our living environment and the social and personal activities that take place there. The artist sets out to create a sort of interaction between the artwork and the spectator, between object and subject. This reciprocity is supposed to make art an open and interactive process.
