INBOX: Kris Fierens

17 January - 16 February 2014
M HKA, Antwerpen

The M HKA reserves its fifth floor for surprise events and intimate pop-up presentations. INBOX is a place that both inspires and surprises, and grants us a glimpse into the universe of passionate thinkers and doers. With INBOX, M HKA creates a physical space in which the museum addresses often-reccuring questions. In between the various events, we show a selection of our collection work, paying particular attention to video art.

Artist Kris Fierens (born in 1957, Schoten) was the first guest at INBOX. From 18.01.2014 to 16.02.20104, he presented his book, for which he made 48 screen prints on five copies during a residency in the Frans Masereel Centrum in Kasterlee.

For his screen prints, Kris Fierens drew on the powerful vitality and dynamic beauty of 'movement'. The result was each time a unique, subtle and sophisticated piece of work.  And yet, the artist never wants to be without engagement, literally 'not committed', or without any form of obligation. According to Fierens, art owes it to itself to appropriate, to upsurp, in orde to success. Because of that his work is a balancing act between freedom and non-commitment.
