INBOX: Christine Clinckx – The Walk
Christine Clinckx spent a lot of time with her grandparents as a child. They often told her stories about the First and Second World War, about the aftermath of the experience and the impact the wars had on their lives. How having lived with the hate, jealousy and revenge from neighbours marked them.
After her grandparents passed away, Clinckx received a box of photographs. In some of these photographs the faces had been cut out. Clinckx wondered about the reasons behind this drastic intervention. Why were their faces removed? Had they perhaps shown someone they did not wish to remember?
Christine Clinckx explores the stories that lay hidden under the skin of the photograph and looks for ways to expose them. Clinckx fries, burns, freezes and buries the images and watches how these actions help to reveal the lives of the people depicted in the photographs. Her actions provide the photographs with an additional story.
