M HKA INBOX reserves the fifth floor of the museum for surprising interventions and intimate pop-up presentations. Yutaka Sone is presenting the slideshow "Travel 1987  1988".

In the late 80's (1987
88), after finishing his architectural studies, Yutaka Sone travelled the Middle East for two years and photographed slides of the medieval architecture and young generation living there.

In light of the far-reaching impact of current events in the Middle East the work has taken on multiple overtones, given the fact that a significant portion of the buildings he photographed have since been destroyed, and a number of the individuals he portrayed have either been killed or seen their lives drastically overturned.

In 1989 Sone made a selection of these slides, which are presented together for the first time as a thematic whole in the exhibition "Travel 1987
– 88" at M HKA.

Yutaka Sone  trained as an architect before venturing into the world of fine arts. Sone's work explores the tension between realism and perfection, using painting, sculpture, installation, film, and performance.
