We are then in the 1940s, a period of profound social change in Argentina. How do you see that con text reflected in the printed matter and publications of the time?
What stands out in material from this period is a strong sense of beginning and experimentation. Publications such as Arturo, which appeared in 1944, function almost as manifestos. Figuration and naturalism are decisively rejected; art is conceived as an autonomous, constructed reality. In printed form, this translates into rigorous compositions, geometric structures and a pronounced attention to materiality. Graphic design is not yet a separate discipline, but an integral part of a broader search for new forms of art and thought.
