LODGERS #1 MER. Paper Kunsthalle (Ghent)

(c) M HKA
31 January - 19 April 2015
M HKA, Antwerpen

The LODGERS programme is a collaboration between AIR Antwerpen and M HKA . We welcome imaginative artistic initiatives to come and occupy the 6th floor at M HKA. The programme offers a unique opportunity for public interface, to organisations and initiatives who focus specifically on producing and commissioning, and who do not have their own public space. These LODGERS might be publishers, commissioning agencies, research initiatives, labels, collectives, discussion platforms and other initiatives experimenting with artistic practice who would be interested to live, work and perform in Antwerp.

LODGERS are welcomed from "Eurocore" – the combined region of Benelux and the Rheinland. Free entrance to visit our LODGERS. Come and say hello!

The LODGERS programme is co-curated by Nav Haq, Senior Curator at M HKA, and Alan Quireyns, Artistic Director at AIR Antwerpen.

MER. Paper Kunsthalle was founded in 2005 to explore the scope of books as places to display art. MER. Paper Kunsthalle is a self-confessed ‘paper art gallery’; its main goal is to make this space available to artists by creating an institutional platform that publishes art books, as well as books which experiment with the medium as curatorial environment.

There is also AudioMER, a record label for experimental music, focusing on artwork by contemporary visual artists. In 2012, MER.Station launched a series of nomadic curatorial experiments that explore the possibilities of exhibiting artists’ books in non-book related environments.

For their LODGERS presentation, MER. Paper Kunsthalle joined forces with artist Ania Soliman who developed an artist’s book in situ, and musician Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson, who presented new work, along with a series of  ‘sound events’.
