LODGERS #3 Apparent Extent

The LODGERS programme is a collaboration between AIR Antwerpen and M HKA . We welcome imaginative artistic initiatives to come and occupy the 6th floor at M HKA. The programme offers a unique opportunity for public interface, to organisations and initiatives who focus specifically on producing and commissioning, and who do not have their own public space. These LODGERS might be publishers, commissioning agencies, research initiatives, labels, collectives, discussion platforms and other initiatives experimenting with artistic practice who would be interested to live, work and perform in Antwerp.
LODGERS are welcomed from "Eurocore" – the combined region of Benelux and the Rheinland. Free entrance to visit our LODGERS. Come and say hello!
The LODGERS programme is co-curated by Nav Haq, Senior Curator at M HKA, and Alan Quireyns, Artistic Director at AIR Antwerpen.
Making Records in Public. The record label Apparent Extent, based in Cologne, was founded in 2005 by composer and musician Volker Zander (born in 1968, Fulda). In the 90s, Zander was active as a landscape architect and travelled around as a musician.
After seeing a retrospective on the cinematic work of artist Johanna Billing in 2006, Zander decided to focus on releasing audio works by artists. Since then, Apparent Extent has contributed to the creation of vinyl editions of soundtracks, performances, music and audio installations by, among others, Johanna Billing, Karl Holmqvist, Christian Jendreiko, Mika Taanila and many others. The recordings are always done in close collaboration with institutions such as the Arnolfini in Bristol, the Malmö Konsthall, the Badischer Kunstverein in Karlsruhe and many others.
During his stay in AIR Antwerp, Zander moved the office of APPARENT EXTENT temporarily to the LODGERS space in the M HKA. From there, he presented a series of projects, performances and events to mark the 10th anniversary of APPARENT EXTENT.
