Sjoerd Buisman uses nature as an illustrative material. Not only natural materials, but also natural laws in natural processes have become a fixed starting point for his work. In his research into the spiral – which continues to be an important theme in his work – he emphasises the order of natural processes: the way leaves grow and in which leaf positions are developed. Following on from the discovery of the concept of phyllotaxis – the spiralling growth chiefly familiar to us in the case of the celery plant – this work shows a cross section of a celery plant.
