Meeting Points 7 – Ten Thousand Wiles and a Hundred Thousand Tricks
In Ten thousand wiles and a hundred thousand tricks Tom Nicholson will present his multi-part Comparative Monument (Palestine), which focuses on the Palestine Monuments of Melbourne, erected to commemorate the Australian troops who fought with the British in Palestine in the First World War. Nicholson imagines the monuments transferred to Palestinian soil as a way to reassess the relation between the two countries and their shared history under British imperialism in the 1920s. The work proposes an alternative form of remembrance, one that takes into account the dispossessions and violence of history.
