Toy camera obscura. The effect of the ‘dark room’ is one of the basic principles of every photographic or film camera. The optical effect has been known for a long time and goes back as far as Greek Antiquity. Indeed, around 300 BC Aristotle described optical effects and the optical principle by way of sun spots projected through the leaves of trees in a dense forest. Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519) too described the operation and use of the camera obscura as a drawing aid.
