Peter Rogiers

In the middle of the Nineties, Peter Rogiers - together with compagnons de route like Berlinde De Bruyckere and Gert Verhoeven - again return the focus to the issue of sculpture in Flanders. In his work, Rogiers draws inspiration not only from art history, but also from comics (he himself authored two comic books) and the world of rock ’n roll. Moreover, be brings his liking for contemporary dance to sculptural expression. He combines traditional materials like bronze with unusual media like polyurethane to make massive volumes having the air of weightlessness. Because of this diversity, he cannot be pigeonholed into a single style, and his work hovers between figurative refinement and primary expression.
